Virat Kohli rewrites history, surpasses Sangakkara to become ODI’s second-highest run machine!

SYDNEY: Indian batting icon Virat Kohli reached another remarkable achievement in his illustrious career by overtaking Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals on Saturday.The former India skipper reached the milestone during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Kohli played a calm and well-structured innings of 74 off 81 deliveries, guiding India to an easy victory in their chase.

With this performance, Kohli’s career total climbed to 14,255 runs in 305 matches, moving him ahead of Sangakkara, who had 14,234 runs in 404 appearances.He now trails only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the chart with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs.

At 36, Kohli’s numbers in the format remain extraordinary, boasting an average of 57.71, a strike rate of 93.26, 51 centuries, and 75 fifties.Among the top ten highest run-scorers in ODI history, he stands alone with an average exceeding 50.

With his latest innings, Kohli also overtook Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in white-ball internationals, further solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in modern-day cricket.
