AI has now made its way into the cricket field as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun using advanced AI technology for pitch analysis.
Before the 10th match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, former Indian captain Mithali Raj collaborated with Google’s Gemini AI tool to present the pitch report.
Using the Gemini Live feature on her phone, Mithali showed the pitch through the camera and asked the AI:
“We’re at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam for a one-day match, and the weather is hot and humid — what’s your take on this pitch?”Gemini analyzed and responded that the pitch appeared smooth and favorable for batting, with little grass, meaning the ball would not swing much in such weather conditions. Therefore, a high-scoring match was expected.
Mithali Raj agreed with Gemini’s assessment, saying it was indeed a good batting surface and that fans could look forward to a run-filled contest.
