Mitchell Marsh has been appointed captain of the Australian T20I team for the upcoming five-match series in the West Indies, marking his return after recovering from a lower back injury that sidelined him during the Champions Trophy and the T20I series against Pakistan. Joining him in the squad is dynamic batter Mitchell Owen, who received his first national call-up following an outstanding Big Bash League season where he was the top scorer and smashed an unforgettable 108 off 42 deliveries in the final.
Pace bowler Josh Hazlewood is also back in the side after being rested for the previous T20I series, while left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been included for the first time. However, senior players like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc have been excluded from the 16-player squad as they are set to return home after the three-match Test series against the West Indies, starting June 25.

Rising star Jake Fraser-McGurk was omitted from the squad, but all-rounders Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly have returned after recovering from injuries. Glenn Maxwell, who recently announced his ODI retirement, retains his place in the T20 lineup.
Australia has been in strong form, winning 12 of their last 14 T20Is as preparations intensify for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Selection committee chief George Bailey highlighted that the team is focusing on refining the best combination for subcontinent conditions, with upcoming T20 series also scheduled against South Africa, New Zealand, and India. The series against the West Indies will kick off on July 20 in Kingston, Jamaica.
