Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali has climbed to second spot in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings released on Wednesday, following his brilliant display against South Africa in the opening Test of the ongoing two-match series.

Noman’s impressive leap, moving up four places to attain 853 rating points, has brought him within close reach of India’s top-ranked Jasprit Bumrah. The 39-year-old veteran’s outstanding spell in Lahore where he took 6 for 112 and 4 for 79 during Pakistan’s 93-run triumph lifted him ahead of several big names, including Kagiso Rabada, who has now dropped to fifth.

With this milestone, Noman Ali becomes only the seventh Pakistani bowler in history to surpass the 850-point barrier, and the first since Yasir Shah achieved the mark in July 2016.

His previous career-high was fifth position earlier this year during Pakistan’s home series against the West Indies, when he reached 806 points.
