The Bangladesh Cricket Board has issued an explanation regarding an incident that took place during the toss before an ICC Under 19 World Cup 2026 match.

Ahead of the ICC Under 19 World Cup fixture in Bulawayo Zimbabwe the captains of Bangladesh and India did not shake hands at the time of the toss which drew attention. In response the Bangladesh Cricket Board released an official clarification.According to the board the regular Bangladeshi captain Azizul Haque was unwell and therefore unable to attend the toss. As a result vice captain Jawad Abrar represented the team on that occasion.

The board stated that the lack of a handshake with the Indian captain was unintentional and occurred due to a brief moment of inattention.

The statement emphasized that there was no intention whatsoever to disrespect the opposing team. Taking the matter seriously the BCB immediately informed the team management and reminded the players that the spirit of the game sportsmanship and mutual respect are essential principles for representing Bangladesh at every level.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values and traditions of cricket both on and off the field.
