Sri Lanka defeated Hong Kong by 4 wickets in a tense Asia Cup 2025 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday. Set a target of 150, Sri Lanka reached 152-6 in 18.5 overs, thanks largely to Pathum Nissanka’s 68 off 44 balls. Kamil Mishara (19) and Kusal Perera (20) added useful runs, but Hong Kong struck back when Yasim Murtaza claimed 2 wickets in the 15th over, dismissing Perera and skipper Charith Asalanka on consecutive deliveries. Another wicket in the 16th over reduced Sri Lanka to 127-6, leaving the match in the balance. Wanindu Hasaranga then produced a decisive cameo, smashing 20 from 9 balls, including a six off a no-ball and back-to-back fours in the penultimate over, to seal victory with 7 balls to spare.

Earlier, Hong Kong posted 149-4 in 20 overs after being sent in to bat. Zeeshan Ali gave them a fast start with 23 from 17 before Dushmantha Chameera removed him. Nizakat Khan top-scored with 52 off 38, while Anshy Rath contributed 48 from 46 in a 61-run partnership that lifted the side to a competitive total. For Sri Lanka, Chameera finished with 2 wickets, while Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka took 1 each. Despite Hong Kong’s disciplined bowling, Sri Lanka’s greater depth and Hasaranga’s late assault proved the difference.
