The doors of the ODI World Cup are likely to be closed for Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.According to a report by the Indian newspaper “Daynak Jagran”, it has become extremely difficult for Virat and Rohit to make it to the team for the 2027 World Cup.Since both players are not playing T20s and Tests, their match time will be limited in the coming years, which is causing concerns for the selection committee and BCCI officials. The report claims that if both players do not participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (domestic one-day tournament) starting in December this year, the chances of the World Cup opening for them are slim.According to the Indian newspaper, a source in the team management said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not included in our 2027 World Cup plans. Moreover, according to the report, both players wanted to be part of the England tour, but the selectors informed them that they were not eligible, after which they decided to retire from the format. India’s next ODI series will be against Australia in October and this series is likely to prove to be the end of his career as the chances of a return to domestic cricket are slim at this stage.India’s Test captain Shubman Gill’s stellar performance in the recent England series has further boosted the selection committee’s confidence, and many quarters are considering him as India’s all-format captain in the future. After the impressive entry of young players, it is possible that the selectors will rely on them for the 2027 World Cup as well.Just as the process of change in T20 and Test has been completed, a major change is also expected in ODI cricket, which is making the situation particularly difficult for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It should be noted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have recently retired from T20 and Test cricket, but both have not yet announced their retirement from the One Day International format. The Indian team has started to move forward without these batting legends in the Test and T20 formats, however, Rohit is still the captain of the 50-over team while Virat’s importance also remains. Both seem to be aiming for the 2027 ODI World Cup but have not made any official announcements on their future plans.
