Ahead of PSL season 11, the league expanded with Hyderabad and Sialkot added as new franchises after a major auction held in Islamabad. The two teams will join Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Multan in the upcoming season.
Former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen stayed out of the auction and later explained that the decision was based on his family’s emotional attachment to the franchise and its connection with South Punjab.
After the auction, Mohsin Naqvi said there were widespread claims that Multan Sultans were running at a loss. He stated that the PCB decided to run the team themselves and present clear financial figures to show the league’s strong business value.
Naqvi added that despite pressure to sell the team, he aims to operate Multan Sultans for a year and is hopeful of handing it over as a profitable venture.
