A disturbing incident occurred in Indore involving two Australian women cricketers who were in the country to participate in the Women’s World Cup. The incident of harassment took place when the players were walking from their hotel to a nearby cafe.As soon as the incident happened, the cricketers immediately sent an SOS alert, prompting security officials to rush to the scene. The Australian team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, filed a complaint at the MIG police station on Thursday evening. After receiving the report, the police registered an FIR and arrested the accused, Aqeel Khan, who was reportedly on a motorcycle at the time of the incident.
Both players are part of the Australian women’s cricket team and were staying with other teammates at the Radisson Blu Hotel.According to news agency PTI, the police arrested the suspect on Friday, who was allegedly involved in the incident that took place Thursday morning on Khajrana Road.
Sub-inspector Nidhi Raghuwanshi stated that the two players were walking toward a café when a man on a motorcycle began following them, behaved inappropriately, and then fled the scene.
The players immediately contacted their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local authorities to send an emergency response team.
Upon receiving the information, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two players, recorded their statements, and filed an FIR at the MIG police station under sections related to attempted assault with intent to outrage modesty and stalking.
An eyewitness had noted the motorcycle’s registration number, which helped police track down and arrest Aqeel Khan. Authorities stated that Khan already has a criminal record, and further investigation is ongoing.
