The new head coach of the Pakistan cricket team is expected to be announced next week. According to sources, after reviewing applications submitted by May 4, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started shortlisting candidates. At the top of the list is Mike Hesson, the current head coach of Islamabad United and former New Zealand coach.

Hesson has already held initial discussions with PCB officials and expressed his interest—but he wants to bring his own support staff, a demand the board hasn’t agreed to yet. However, both sides are still open to further talks.
In addition to international names, local coaches are also being considered. Saqlain Mushtaq and Misbah-ul-Haq are among the Pakistani candidates being discussed. Former captain Abdul Razzaq has also shown interest in joining the coaching staff.

Meanwhile, the PCB selection committee is expected to meet next week to finalize the squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against Bangladesh.
