Cricket Ireland has reacted to reports regarding a potential group change in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Cricket Ireland has dismissed the possibility of being moved to a different group in the ICC T20 World Cup. Media reports had earlier claimed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board had asked the ICC to swap groups with Ireland.A meeting between Bangladesh Cricket Board officials and ICC representatives was held in Dhaka today during which the BCB maintained its stance of not traveling to India.
During the discussion Bangladesh requested a group exchange with Ireland so that all of its matches could be played in Sri Lanka.
Speaking to a cricket website Cricket Ireland stated that matches will not be relocated and said they have been assured that no changes will be made and the team will compete as per the original schedule.
Cricket Ireland officials confirmed that they will definitely play their group stage matches in Sri Lanka.
Ireland are placed in Group C alongside Sri Lanka Australia Zimbabwe and Oman while Bangladesh are part of Group B where three of their matches are scheduled in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. Bangladesh will face West Indies England Nepal and Italy.
In its official statement the BCB mentioned the possibility of a group change for Bangladesh.
