West Indies break jinx, win first ODI series against Pakistan after 34 years

TAROUBA (Trinidad & Tobago): West Indies ended a 34-year wait on Tuesday by securing a historic ODI series victory over Pakistan at the Brian Lara Stadium.

Chasing a target of 295, Pakistan collapsed under pressure and were bowled out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs.Batting first, West Indies posted a strong total of 294-6 in their 50 overs. The hosts lost opener Brandon King early for just five runs in the second over, continuing their struggles at the top. Pakistan’s bowlers kept tight lines, restricting the scoring during the powerplay as West Indies reached only 35 runs in the first 10 overs.

Evin Lewis, after a slow start, hit two sixes off Hussain Talat but was dismissed in the next over for 37 off 54 balls. Keacy Carty also fell cheaply for 17 off 45, with Abrar Ahmed taking the wicket.

Captain Shai Hope anchored the innings, first adding 45 runs with Sherfane Rutherford (15 off 40) and then a quick 64-run stand with Roston Chase, who scored 36 off 29 balls. After Motie’s dismissal for five, West Indies were 184-6 in the 42nd over.

Hope and Justin Greaves then turned the match around with an explosive unbeaten partnership of 110 runs from just 50 balls. Greaves smashed 43 off 24 balls with four fours and two sixes, while Hope remained unbeaten to guide the team to a commanding total.Jayden Seales was the star for West Indies, taking six wickets to destroy Pakistan’s batting order and seal the historic series win.

For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed and Naseem Shah took two wickets each.
