The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to introduce a new rule to make ‘bunny hop’ boundary catches illegal, following changes announced by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).The new regulation will be added to the ICC Playing Conditions later this month and will officially be included in the MCC rules in October 2026.Under the latest rule, a fielder can now catch the ball once while in the air outside the field, but then he must return to the field. The amendment by the MCC comes in the wake of such incidents in the Big Bash League (BBL), most recently when Brisbane Heat’s Michael Nesser took a controversial catch to dismiss Sydney Sixers’ Jordan Silk. While taking a catch near the boundary, Nasir caught the ball but he crossed the boundary and threw the ball into the air and later brought the ball back to the boundary while still in the air and completed the catch.
