VADODARA: India Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill spoke about his unexpected exclusion from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand beginning Sunday.
The 26 year old was not selected after modest T20I returns as selectors chose a more aggressive batting lineup with Abhishek Sharma Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan at the top.
Gill said he accepted the decision as fate and fully respected the selectors while extending his best wishes to the T20 side for the World Cup.He added that India remains strong despite his absence and noted the tournament will be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Focusing on the ODI series Gill highlighted the importance of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma calling their experience invaluable in pressure situations and a big support for him as captain.
