Former Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has emphasized the urgent need to cultivate premium fast bowlers to secure consistent victories in the grueling format of Test cricket.
Speaking on Geo News’ special broadcast, ‘Cricket Ka Muqadma,’ Masood highlighted a recurring issue where Pakistani pacers tend to lose their intensity by the third or fourth day of a Test match. He expressed concern over opposition tailenders frequently scoring crucial runs against them. “To win a Test match, you absolutely must take 20 wickets, which demands an exceptional and sustained bowling effort,” Masood stated.
Echoing similar sentiments, former captain Mohammad Hafeez warned that an over-reliance on spin bowling could ultimately be detrimental to Pakistan’s cricketing future. He advocated for the preparation of sporting pitches that cater to all facets of the game, stressing that building a robust foundation in red-ball cricket is vital for the overall elevation of the sport in the country.
