The International Cricket Council (ICC) concluded its Annual General Meeting without reaching a decision on major structural proposals, including trimming One Day International (ODI) cricket to 40 overs and expanding the World Test Championship (WTC) to a 12-team model.
The high-profile annual conference, which took place from July 8 to July 11 in Edinburgh, Scotland, left several highly anticipated proposals hanging. According to cricket media reports, discussions regarding reducing the traditional 50-over ODI format to 40 overs did not produce a definitive outcome. Similarly, the proposal to expand the WTC cycle to include 12 competing nations instead of the current nine was left unresolved without a final ruling.
However, the governing body took firm administrative actions regarding global memberships. The ICC decided to uphold the suspension of USA Cricket and Cricket Canada due to ongoing governance non-compliance. Meanwhile, France Cricket was officially placed on notice, and the Mauritius Cricket Federation was formally granted Associate Membership.
With these fresh structural changes, the total strength of the ICC global membership has now reached 111 member nations.
