Australia have once again showcased their dominance in women’s cricket, securing a place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final for the eighth time after defeating West Indies by eight wickets in the first semi-final.
In the match played in London, West Indies batted first and managed to post 125 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted overs. Captain Hayley Matthews led the scoring with 30 runs, while Deandra Dottin contributed 26 runs.
Australia’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance, with Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, and Sophie Molineux each claiming two wickets to restrict the Caribbean side.
In reply, the Australian women chased down the target in just 13 overs with a commanding batting display. Beth Mooney starred with an unbeaten 61-run knock, smashing eight boundaries, while Ashleigh Gardner added a solid unbeaten 35 runs to seal a comfortable victory.
Meanwhile, the second semi-final of the tournament is set to take place today, where England will face South Africa for a place in the grand finale.
