Darren Gough has taken aim at the England and Wales Cricket Board over the appointment of overseas figures in key cricket roles.
The former England pacer said coach Brendon McCullum is lucky to have kept his position despite recent losses. While praising McCullum’s aggressive cricket approach, Gough stressed that the team still needs improvement and said the New Zealand coach would face growing pressure and scrutiny.
Gough also expressed disappointment over the appointment of Australian former cricketer Marcus North as chief selector. He admitted he could have strongly challenged several issues in the role but believes he is now calmer and more mature than before.
According to Gough, the role itself is difficult and requires many areas to be corrected. He also doubted the ECB’s vision of strengthening ties between county and England cricket, arguing that it is hard to achieve when the coach is from New Zealand and the selector is from Australia.
