India secured the Men’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in a high-scoring final in Nisshin, Japan.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer saw his side post an imposing 211 for six in their allotted 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma spearheaded the assault with a blistering 61 off 28 balls, complemented by a rapid 20-ball half-century from Tilak Varma and useful contributions from Ishan Kishan (21) and Suryavanshi (15). For Pakistan, bowling honors were shared by Arafat Minhas and Ahmed Daniyal, who claimed two wickets apiece, alongside a wicket each for Abrar Ahmed and Saim Ayub.

In reply, Pakistan’s chase faced early headwinds with captain Sahibzada Farhan dismissed for 10 and Usman Khan departing for three. Hassan Nawaz waged a sensational counter-attack, blasting seven sixes and five boundaries in an electrifying 96-run knock before being dismissed on the final delivery of the match. Despite supportive knocks from Saim Ayub (29) and Maaz Sadaqat (23), Pakistan fell short by 19 runs, settling for the silver medal in an encounter that was also underscored by continued tensions following the avoided pre-match handshake between the rival captains.
