Michael Vaughan has criticized the England and Wales Cricket Board for allowing Jofra Archer to remain in the Indian Premier League instead of being available for Test duty.
Speaking on a television show, Vaughan questioned why Archer was left out of England’s squad for the first Test against New Zealand while continuing his IPL commitments. He suggested this reflects a possible understanding between the ECB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
He argued that centrally contracted players should not be allowed to prioritize franchise leagues over representing their country, insisting that national duty must remain the top priority.
While acknowledging the financial benefits of franchise cricket, Vaughan warned that Test cricket should not be overshadowed. He also said that if England wants players involved in the IPL, then scheduling must be managed to avoid clashes with international series.
The first Test between England and New Zealand national cricket team starts on June 4.
