The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially decided to suspend the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to escalating tensions with Pakistan and increasing security threats. The decision comes just hours after a dramatic incident during last night’s IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.

The match was abruptly halted when the lights at the Dharamshala stadium were suddenly turned off. Security officials cited a potential threat as the reason and immediately evacuated players and fans. The unexpected suspension created panic among spectators and raised serious questions about safety at major sporting events in the region.

Foreign players and franchises had already expressed concerns over the situation. Following the match disruption, the IPL governing council held an emergency meeting which led to the suspension decision.

This marks the first time in IPL history that an entire season has been put on hold due to geopolitical conflict.
