The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) prospects of swiftly retrieving the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup trophies have stalled, with sources confirming that both trophies remain stationed in Pakistan with no immediate transfer in sight.
The impasse follows back-to-back refusals by Indian national squads to accept the silverware directly from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi. Last year in Dubai, the Indian men’s team declined to receive the championship trophy from Naqvi, a stance repeated last Sunday when the Indian women’s team also bypassed the post-final presentation following their victory. As a result, both pieces of silverware remain in the custody of the ACC President.
Insiders state that the trophies will only be handed over if Indian authorities formally agree to participate in the presentation, with Naqvi retaining sole authority to conduct the handover. Although BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia recently indicated that both trophies would eventually find their way to the board’s Mumbai headquarters, he conceded that no specific timeline could be established for their retrieval.
