Set a daunting target of 463, England’s batting lineup collapsed for 209 in the final innings despite fighting knocks from skipper Joe Root (77) and Harry Brook (58). No other batter was able to make a meaningful contribution.
Pace spearhead Matt Henry starred with the ball, claiming six wickets in the second innings and ending the match with an impressive 11-wicket haul. Kyle Jamieson supported brilliantly with three wickets, while Will O’Rourke chipped in with one.
New Zealand posted 391 runs in their first innings before adding 362 in the second. England replied with 291 in the first innings but failed to mount a successful chase in the fourth innings.
The emphatic win helped New Zealand square the series, setting up a thrilling decider in the third and final Test, scheduled to start on Thursday in Nottingham.
