Shan Masood praised Babar Azam, calling him Pakistan’s finest batter and one of the team’s most important players.
Addressing the media in Dhaka, Masood said Babar gains confidence whenever he scores heavily, and the team expects him to continue the same impressive form he showed in the Pakistan Super League during the upcoming Test series.
The skipper stressed that Pakistan does not underestimate any opponent and acknowledged that Bangladesh has its own strengths. He added that Pakistan is also confident in its abilities.
Masood described playing in Bangladesh’s home conditions as a tough challenge but said Pakistan’s squad is well balanced. According to him, success in the two match series will come down to whichever side performs better over the course of 10 days.
He noted that the pitch still contains grass and could provide extra assistance to pace bowlers. The final playing XI will be selected after a detailed inspection of the surface.
The Pakistan captain also recognised Bangladesh’s strong bowling attack but expressed confidence that his batters can deliver solid performances.
He explained that the squad combination was prepared to suit different conditions, while recent changes in the top order were caused by injuries. Masood also highlighted the importance of the middle order, describing it as the backbone of any team.
Speaking about Test cricket, he said teams cannot win matches without taking 20 wickets, emphasising the crucial role of bowlers in the longer format. He added that he has full faith in Pakistan’s bowling department.
Masood concluded by saying that having coaches who once played alongside the current players is a positive factor for the team environment.
