The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it mandatory for national cricketers to play padel during long-duration training camps as part of its latest high-performance development program.

To support the initiative, dedicated padel courts have been established at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), allowing players to enjoy the sport without leaving the training facility while also improving their overall fitness.

Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed said padel is an easy-to-learn sport that offers significant fitness benefits. He explained that players previously had to travel elsewhere to play, but the new facility ensures they can now combine cricket training with recreational sports in one location.

According to Aaqib Javed, players participating in extended camps will be required to play padel for around 40 minutes every alternate day. He believes the game’s movement patterns closely resemble those used in fielding, making it an effective way to enhance agility, footwork, and overall athletic performance.

He also revealed that basketball courts are part of the academy’s future development plans, while a dedicated games room featuring snooker and other indoor activities is also being built. Aaqib emphasized that elite athletes around the world regularly participate in multiple sports to improve their physical conditioning, and Pakistan’s cricketers will benefit from adopting the same approach.
