Veteran Pakistani sports journalist Qamar Ahmed has passed away in Karachi at the age of 88. Family sources said he had been battling heart-related health issues.
Widely recognized as one of Pakistan’s pioneering cricket journalists, Qamar Ahmed reported on more than 400 Test matches and over 600 ODI internationals across the globe. Throughout his career, he also covered several major International Cricket Council tournaments and international cricket events.
Born on October 23, 1937, in Uttar Pradesh, he spent many years living in England.
Apart from journalism, he played 17 first-class cricket matches and led Hyderabad in Pakistan’s prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Known internationally as a respected cricket writer and analyst, Qamar Ahmed leaves behind a remarkable legacy in the world of sports journalism.
His funeral prayers will be held today after Maghrib at Bait-us-Salam Mosque.
