Iconic cricket venue Lord’s Cricket Ground could lose the opportunity to host the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final following concerns over pitch quality.
According to reports from British media, the controversy emerged after the pitch used during the recent Test match between England Cricket Team and New Zealand Cricket Team at Lord’s received an unsatisfactory rating from the International Cricket Council. Because of this, the ICC is reportedly considering shifting the WTC Final from Lord’s to The Oval.
No final decision has been announced so far. However, England has already secured hosting rights for WTC Finals through 2031 under ICC’s long-term arrangement.
Even if Lord’s is removed as the venue for the WTC Final, it will still host two Test matches, as part of an agreement with the England and Wales Cricket Board guaranteeing the venue a minimum of two Tests.
Reports also suggest that Pakistan’s only scheduled Test match against England, currently set for Old Trafford Cricket Ground, may be shifted to Lord’s instead.
