India Sweats Over Potential Asian Games Medal Handover by Mohsin Naqvi

India’s anxieties are mounting ahead of the Asian Games medal ceremonies, as intense debates brew across Indian media regarding whether their national cricket teams will accept medals from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi.

The tension stems from recent events where both the Indian men’s and women’s squads notably refused to receive their respective Asia Cup trophies directly from Naqvi. With the Indian women’s team having already qualified for the Asian Games final, the cricketing fraternity is closely monitoring the ACC President’s schedule to determine if he will be tasked with presenting the medals.

If Naqvi is appointed for the ceremony, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will face a precarious dilemma. Under the strict regulations of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the physical presence of athletes on the podium is mandatory. Furthermore, the OCA prohibits any form of protest or political demonstration during victory ceremonies.

Should the Indian contingent boycott the presentation or refuse to accept their medals from Naqvi, it would constitute a direct violation of OCA rules. Authorities could subsequently launch strict disciplinary action against the team, which may include the stripping of their medals alongside other severe sporting sanctions.
