Asia Cup 2025 in Doubt Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

The Asia Cup 2025 is facing uncertainty as tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 Indian tourists. The incident has intensified India’s concerns over security, making it unlikely that the Indian cricket team will travel to Pakistan for the tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has repeatedly voiced safety concerns and may officially refuse participation.

In response, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering alternate options, including inviting another team to replace India if it pulls out. This potential absence would deal a major blow to the event’s viewership and commercial value, as India vs Pakistan matches are the biggest draw in Asian cricket. Pakistan, the host nation, maintains it has provided top-level security in past events and is capable of safely hosting the tournament. However, the geopolitical climate has complicated the situation. The hybrid model used in the 2023 Asia Cup—where matches were split between Pakistan and Sri Lanka—could be revisited. Still, the final decision remains uncertain. The Asia Cup 2025 hangs in the balance, caught between sports diplomacy and political tension.
