The Bangladesh cricket team is facing several problems before their T20 series against Pakistan. First, fast bowler Naheed Rana pulled out of the tour, and now Soumya Sarkar has also been ruled out due to a back injury. In his place, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been added to the squad. The team is expected to arrive in Lahore on May 25, with the T20 matches scheduled for May 28, May 30, and June 1. However, due to security concerns, Naheed Rana and two staff members decided not to travel to Pakistan.

Soumya Sarkar has been struggling with back pain for the past week. Even though he was part of the squad for the recent series against the UAE, he couldn’t play. Bangladesh also suffered an unexpected loss in that series, as the UAE defeated them 2-1.

The team’s physiotherapist, Bejeedul Islam Khan, said Soumya might need two more weeks to recover fully. Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who is already in Pakistan due to the PSL, has now been included. He was previously left out of the squad, even though he performed well in the 2024–25 BPL season — scoring 355 runs and taking 13 wickets, and was even named Player of the Tournament.
