BCCI Faces Setback as Asia Cup Trophies Remain Securely in Pakistan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) expectations of quickly retrieving the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup trophies have been dashed, with sources confirming that both pieces of silverware remain firmly in Pakistan for the foreseeable future.

The ongoing standoff stems from consecutive handover refusals by Indian squads. The issue first arose last year in Dubai when the victorious Indian men’s team declined to accept their championship trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi. The situation mirrored itself last Sunday when the Indian women’s team similarly opted not to receive their trophy following their tournament triumph. Consequently, both trophies are still securely in the possession of the ACC President.

According to sources, the trophies will not be relocated until the BCCI officially demonstrates its willingness to accept them directly from Naqvi, who retains the sole authority to present them. While BCCI official Devajit Saikia recently asserted that both trophies will eventually make their way to the board’s Mumbai headquarters, he conceded that no definitive timeline can be established for their return.
