BCCI Unlikely to Receive Asia Cup Trophies Soon Amid Handover Standoff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) hopes of swiftly acquiring the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cup trophies have reportedly faded. According to sources, both prestigious trophies currently remain securely in Pakistan, with no immediate plans for their relocation.

The ongoing delay stems from consecutive handover refusals. Last year, the victorious Indian men’s team declined to receive the championship trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi in Dubai. In a similar move, the Indian women’s squad also opted not to accept their silverware following their title win last Sunday. Consequently, both trophies remain in the physical custody of the ACC President.

Sources indicate that to resolve the situation, the BCCI must officially demonstrate its willingness to receive the trophies, which will only be formally presented by Naqvi. While BCCI official Devajit Saikia recently expressed optimism that both trophies would eventually arrive at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai, he admitted that no specific timeline could be provided for the handover.
