Former Australian cricketer Stuart MacGill has faced a major legal setback after his appeal for bail was flatly rejected in an ongoing drug trafficking case.
According to Australian media reports, the former leg-spinner was convicted in 2025 for his involvement in a high-profile drug deal. The court had initially sentenced MacGill to one year and 10 months in prison, alongside a mandatory 495 days of community service.
Seeking relief, the former cricketer filed an appeal with the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal. However, the court dismissed his plea, forcing him to remain behind bars.
The case centers around MacGill’s alleged involvement in the financial transactions of a major drug transaction. Despite the mounting legal trouble, the former spin wizard has consistently maintained his innocence, claiming he had absolutely no knowledge of any such illicit deal.
MacGill prominently represented Australia between 1998 and 2008, claiming numerous wickets across 44 Test matches during the golden era of Australian cricket.
