Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) to challenge his summons by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), requesting an immediate stay of proceedings.
In his petition, Rizwan challenged both the agency’s jurisdiction and the legal basis of its inquiry. The cricketer argued that while the NCCIA’s formal notice cited an ongoing investigation into online betting and gambling, investigators failed to articulate any specific wrongdoing during his appearance. Rizwan stated that despite repeatedly asking for details regarding the alleged illicit activities, officials offered no clarification, leaving him to face scrutiny over vague and unstated allegations.
The legal standoff comes amid an ongoing inquiry involving both Rizwan and fellow national teammate Imam-ul-Haq, who were abruptly recalled from Pakistan’s tour of England to face questioning. The NCCIA had previously handed detailed questionnaires to both players with a September 15 submission deadline, which Imam has already fulfilled. Rizwan has now appealed to the high court to suspend all NCCIA actions until a final verdict is reached on the petition.
