Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes the Asia Cup might not happen this year due to rising political tensions between India and Pakistan after a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. He said it’s hard to imagine Pakistan taking part in a tournament hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Gavaskar pointed out that the Indian cricket board (BCCI) usually follows the Indian government’s direction, so the same would likely apply for the Asia Cup. He also said that if the situation doesn’t improve, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) could even be shut down, and a smaller three- or four-nation tournament might be organized instead, possibly including teams like UAE or Hong Kong.
He added that if India decides not to play in the Asia Cup, they might still host their own multi-nation tournament with teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
