The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a series of major governance, membership, and member support decisions during its annual board meetings, alongside the formation of two new sub-committees aimed at strengthening the global administration of cricket.
According to the ICC, Devajit Saikia has been appointed Chairman of the newly formed Review Committee, with Dr. Mohammad Moosa and Dr. Ross Rewaz serving as committee members.
The ICC also approved the creation of the Franchise Leagues Committee, which will be chaired by Tamim Iqbal. Other members include Dr. Rudi van Vuuren, Devajit Saikia, Richard Gould, and Todd Greenberg. The committee is expected to focus on issues relating to the growing influence of franchise-based cricket around the world.
In another significant development, Mauritius was granted ICC membership, becoming the governing body’s 111th member nation and marking another step in the expansion of international cricket.
The ICC Board also approved a loan of USD 12.82 million for Cricket West Indies as part of its member support initiatives.
The governing body confirmed that Cricket Canada’s suspension-related restrictions will remain in place until all required conditions have been fully met.
The Board also reviewed the situation involving Sri Lanka Cricket. While SLC briefed the ICC on the measures it has taken, the Board reiterated its call for cricket board elections to be held as soon as possible. The decision to deny Sri Lanka Cricket representation at the ICC Board meeting also remains unchanged.
Additionally, the ICC officially recognized the newly elected President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as a Full Member Director. Meanwhile, France Cricket continues to face an ICC notice over alleged violations of the organization’s membership procedures.
